14-9-2023 (BANGKOK) Saraburi police are currently seeking arrest warrants from the court for five individuals believed to have been customers of a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly forced into prostitution at a resort in Saraburi province. Police Chief Inspector Pol Col Somkid Sawisai revealed the latest developments on Wednesday (Sept 13), stating that two of the five suspects have already been questioned and granted temporary release. One suspect works as a hospital staff member in Saraburi, while the other is a construction contractor from Lopburi province. However, three other suspects, including a politician from a party in the government coalition, the former director of the Saraburi Office of Buddhism, and a sales officer in a private company, are still on the run. Investigators are actively gathering evidence to identify a possible sixth suspect in the case.
The investigation began on Monday (Sept 11) when police at Saraburi’s Ban Mo station received a complaint from a 37-year-old man. The man claimed that his Myanmar wife had coerced their 15-year-old daughter into providing sexual services to guests at a resort where she was employed in Saraburi province. According to the girl’s testimony, she was forced into prostitution in 2022, and her mother was involved in procuring other girls and women for the resort’s guests. Through a Google search, the girl was able to identify six customers, including a politician and a school director.
The Myanmar woman was arrested earlier this week and reportedly confessed to the crimes. She is facing charges of illegal entry, arranging prostitution involving individuals under the age of 15, and human trafficking.
Pol Col Somkid explained that the girl’s father became aware of the situation after she ran away from home and sought refuge at a friend’s house earlier this month. When her father located her, she revealed the truth about her situation, prompting him and the girl’s homeroom teacher to file a police complaint.
