A shocking incident unfolded in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand, as a Polish man allegedly murdered and dismembered his 25-year-old Ukrainian girlfriend, known as “Alona.” The suspect attempted to flee the country via taxi but was apprehended near the Cambodian border in Sa Keao province last night.
The authorities were alerted when Wat Phraya Krai Police Station received information about the discovery of a Ukrainian woman’s body in a condominium room located in Bang Khlo subdistrict, within the Bang Kho Laem district of Bangkok. Upon entering Room No. 708 on the 32nd floor, the police were confronted with a gruesome sight – the bloody and dismembered body of Alona Shevchenko lying on the bed. A saw was found placed across her dismembered body parts. Based on the preliminary assessment, police believe the murder took place one to two days before the discovery.
Investigators revealed that Alona had been staying with her 25-year-old boyfriend, Lagoda Filippow Jan Jerzy, a Polish national. The couple had entered Thailand as tourists on April 29, 2023, and had rented the condo room together in Bangkok. Yesterday, around noon, Lagoda hastily packed his bags and arranged for a taxi to take him to the border in Sa Keao province, offering the driver 1,500 baht. Sensing something amiss, the observant taxi driver notified the condo’s security guard.
The security guard, upon learning of the situation, requested Lagoda to wait while he contacted the condo unit’s owner to inspect the room. It was during this inspection that the lifeless body of Alona was discovered.
At approximately 7:30 pm, with the assistance of the military and local police, Lagoda was apprehended in front of a hotel at the Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Keao province, just before he attempted to cross into Poipet, Cambodia.
Thai police worked in conjunction with the Polish Embassy in Bangkok to secure an interpreter for the suspect’s interrogation. Lagoda was subsequently taken back to Bangkok by officers from the Metropolitan Police Division 5 to face legal proceedings.
The remains of Alona have been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok, where an autopsy will be conducted under the supervision of the Ruam Kantanyu Rescue Foundation.
