19-7-2023 (JAKARTA) The police will be interrogating the railway crossing guard at Madukoro Bridge in West Semarang, Central Java (Jateng), in connection with the collision between the Brantas train and a trailer truck. So far, three witnesses have already been questioned since last night until this afternoon.
“Three witnesses have been questioned so far. Today, we will interrogate the railway crossing guard, and others are awaiting assistance,” explained Central Java Police Public Relations Chief, Kombes Iqbal Alqudussy, to reporters on Wednesday (July 19, 2023).
Iqbal emphasized that the status of the truck’s driver and crew members is still that of witnesses. It should be noted that the collision between the Brantas train and the trailer truck occurred because the truck suddenly stopped in the middle of the crossing.
“The driver and crew members’ status remains as witnesses for now. The investigators are still gathering evidence. After that, a case conference will be conducted regarding their status,” added Iqbal.
After the truck broke down and was hit by the Brantas train in Madukoro, Semarang, Central Java, both the driver and the crew initially fled the accident scene. However, they have since surrendered to the police.
Semarang Metropolitan Police Chief, Kombes Irwan Anwar, revealed that the driver, identified as HS (43) from Kendal, had indeed fled. Subsequently, the police approached him through the trucking company and his family.
“After the incident, he fled out of fear. Then the investigators approached him through the owner and family, and he surrendered,” said Irwan in a brief message reported by detikJateng today.
The accident involving the truck and the Brantas train, which was en route from Jakarta to Blitar, occurred on Tuesday night (July 18). The truck, driven by HS, suddenly stopped at the Madukoro crossing in Semarang.
