19-11-2023 (SINGAPORE) In an effort to tighten regulations surrounding the sale of alcohol to underage individuals, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has announced amendments to the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) (Liquor Licensing) Regulations 2015. While existing laws prohibit the sale of liquor to individuals under 18 in physical stores, there is currently no specific provision addressing online sales.
As of January 2, 2024, a significant legal change will be implemented, making it illegal to sell liquor to underage persons through online platforms or telecommunication services. This move is aimed at closing the existing loophole that allows youngsters to bypass regulations by purchasing alcohol online.
Individuals and businesses found in violation of the new rule may face fines of up to S$10,000. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and SPF conducted a thorough review of the regulations to address the growing concern of minors accessing alcohol through digital channels.
