1-6-2023 (HANOI) A police officer from Dong Nai Province is set to face trial on charges of raping and molesting three girls, aged between 13 and 15, on multiple occasions.
Nguyen Duy Linh, 37, who has been dismissed from his position as captain at the Phu Tan Commune police station in Dinh Quan District, is now facing charges of rape and molestation of minors under the age of 16, according to the Dong Nai People’s Procuracy, the prosecutor’s office.
According to the indictment, in March of last year, the three girls, who are all residents of the local commune, visited Linh’s police station to report harassment by an individual who had threatened to share “sensitive” videos and photos of them on Facebook. The specific details of the content were not disclosed.
Linh was assigned to handle the case, but instead of providing assistance, he allegedly took advantage of the situation. Between March and May of that year, he reportedly demanded that the girls meet him in his office, either individually or together. It is during these encounters that he is accused of raping and molesting them.
Additionally, he would contact the girls and instruct them to meet him in hotels located throughout the district, where he would allegedly force them into sexual acts.
Disturbingly, Linh also videotaped the acts he committed against the girls on several occasions.
On May 15 of last year, the families of the victims discovered the truth about Linh’s actions and lodged a complaint with the Dinh Quan District police. The following day, Linh surrendered himself and confessed to all of his crimes.
Thankfully, none of the victims became pregnant as a result of the assaults.
It is important to note that the maximum punishment for child rape in Vietnam is death.
