4-9-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia engaged in a significant bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, marking a pivotal moment in Malaysia-Russia relations. The high-level talks took place during Anwar’s two-day working visit to Vladivostok, where he is attending the 9th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
This encounter represents Anwar’s first official visit to Russia since taking office in November 2022, underscoring the importance both nations place on strengthening diplomatic ties. The Malaysian leader arrived in Vladivostok at 8:33 am local time, accompanied by a delegation of key ministers and officials, including Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Aziz.
The bilateral meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the EEF, provided a platform for both leaders to discuss matters of mutual interest and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation. The Prime Minister’s delegation also includes Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, and Agriculture and Food Security Deputy Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, indicating the wide-ranging nature of discussions expected during this visit.
