27-5-2023 (Kuala Lumpur) The act of individuals aiming lasers at aircraft during nighttime poses a significant safety risk for passengers and crew members. A pilot shared their firsthand experience of encountering a laser while flying near a residential area, highlighting the potential dangers involved.
The incident was brought to public attention through a TikTok video posted by MrTurboProp, where they documented the laser light during a flight near Taman Elmina.
“Bro, please don’t do this. During nighttime landings, the cockpit lights are dimmed so that our eyes can adjust to the darkness outside. If the laser beam directly hits our eyes, it can cause temporary blindness and jeopardize the safety of the aircraft. If it’s a high-powered laser, it can blind us permanently,” the pilot explained in the video.
The pilot’s sharing of this experience garnered various responses from users, with many urging authorities to take action against the individuals involved.

“Why haven’t they been apprehended? In other countries, once they shine a laser, they are immediately located. The police take action within less than 10 minutes. In Malaysia, who knows?” commented Iera Stilinski.
The incident raises concerns about the security and safety measures surrounding laser attacks on aircraft. Such acts not only endanger the lives of those on board but also disrupt the smooth operations of flights. Authorities are urged to investigate these incidents thoroughly and take appropriate actions to prevent future occurrences.
Laser attacks on aircraft have been a growing concern globally, prompting countries to enforce stricter laws and penalties against offenders. The aviation industry, along with law enforcement agencies, must collaborate to address this issue effectively and ensure the safety of passengers and crew members during flights.
