17-7-2023 (MANILA) House Speaker Martin Romualdez is considering the revival of the “Lungsod ng Kabataan” project, which was initiated by former First Lady Imelda Marcos. The project will be housed under the Philippine Cancer Center, which is set to rise in Quezon City. The “Lungsod ng Kabataan” project will be a temporary shelter for young cancer patients coming from outside Metro Manila. It was considered Imelda’s “brainchild” and will be built on two floors of the proposed 20-floor Philippine Cancer Center.
Romualdez said the House of Representatives will “look for funding” to continue the project, among other initiatives aimed at benefiting cancer patients. During a town hall meeting on cancer services at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Romualdez stated that the House’s goal is “inclusive governance” where every centavo spent will benefit the citizens. He also mentioned that cancer patients are a priority in the “Bagong Pilipinas” governance branding, which was recently launched.
The Philippine Cancer Center will include a cancer research program that will provide the latest innovations in cancer treatment to Filipinos. Romualdez said that the center will serve as a cancer treatment center, research facility, and training ground for cancer specialists that will serve areas outside Metro Manila. He also stated that the center would be one of the legacy projects of the Marcos administration.
The House speaker vowed that the House would fund projects that benefit the country’s cancer patients, such as adequate financial assistance, temporary shelter or halfway houses for patients and their families coming from far provinces, facilities for doctors, and a specialized hospital for cancer.
The Marcos administration launched the “Bagong Pilipinas” governance theme/slogan last week. It is a callback to “Bagong Lipunan (New Society),” a song regularly played during Martial Law to celebrate Marcos Sr.’s vision of a new society and during the proclamation rally for Marcos Jr. The Bagong Pilipinas governance branding is characterized by principled, accountable, and dependable government, committed to helping Filipinos achieve their goals and aspirations.
