15-6-2023 (MANILA) Philippine Airlines is poised to solidify its order for nine Airbus A350-1000 wide-body jets during next week’s Paris Airshow, according to two industry sources.
The airline had previously announced a provisional order in May, with the intention of expanding its route network as the aviation industry recovers from the impact of the pandemic.
A source within the company revealed that the deal is expected to be finalized next week, pending the completion of contractual negotiations.
In addition, Irish leasing firm Avolon is also expected to confirm an order for 40 Boeing 737 MAX jets during the same event, as indicated by other industry insiders.
Avolon, the third-largest leasing firm globally, had expressed its provisional commitment to purchase the 40 jets in April. The deal, valued at over $4 billion at list prices, is set to be fulfilled between 2027 and 2030.
None of the parties involved have provided official comments regarding the matter.
The finalization of contracts will enable the inclusion of these deals in the order books of the respective aircraft manufacturers, while also generating deposits.
Typically, aircraft deals are announced in two stages, with provisional orders often leading to a firm announcement once the detailed terms and conditions have been agreed upon.
