1-4-2025 (KUALA LUMPUR) A ferocious blaze sparked by a ruptured gas pipeline has gripped the Jalan Harmoni area since the early hours of Tuesday, 1 April. PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB), the firm at the heart of the incident, swiftly confirmed that the inferno erupted at 8:10 a.m. along its primary pipeline in Selangor. With commendable urgency, the company has isolated the damaged section, reassuring the public that nearby PETRONAS retail stations remain unscathed and operational.
The Selangor Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, painted a vivid picture of the response efforts, revealing that 78 brave souls from the Fire and Rescue Department have been tirelessly battling the flames. Despite PGB’s prompt action in shutting off the pipeline’s valve, lingering gas residues continue to fuel the fire, complicating containment efforts. Amirudin underscored the ongoing mission to locate and aid those affected, with seven individuals already evacuated from the danger zone.
In a statement brimming with resolve, PGB emphasised its collaboration with local authorities to tame the crisis while keeping the safety of the community and the nation’s gas supply at the forefront. The company pledged to keep the public informed as investigations unfold, promising clarity once the dust—or in this case, the smoke—settles.
Meanwhile, the state has leapt into action, establishing a temporary evacuation centre in Putra Heights to shelter those displaced by the chaos. The Fire and Rescue Department, working in tandem with the state’s disaster unit, is orchestrating the reception of victims, while the Health Department stands ready to ferry the injured to nearby medical facilities. Amirudin urged residents to steer clear of the stricken area until officials declare it secure.
