14-8-2024 (BANGKOK) A 19-year-old man was injured after being struck by a pole while leaning out of a moving train to record social media content in southern Thailand. The incident occurred on 5 August at 3:15 pm as the passenger was travelling on train No. 452 from Sungai Kolok in Narathiwat to Nakhon Si Thammarat, according to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
The passenger was seen hanging out of the train door with one arm, using his phone to capture footage after the train had departed from Ban Ton Don station. As he recorded, he collided with a pole beside the track, sustaining injuries but managing to hold on.
Unaware of his predicament, fellow passengers did not notice the man’s injuries until he fell onto the platform as the train arrived at Phatthalung station, approximately 10 minutes later. The injured passenger was promptly taken to Phatthalung Hospital, where he was treated for head swelling and bruising. An X-ray revealed no serious injuries.
In response to the incident, the SRT issued a warning about the dangers of such behaviour and emphasised the importance of train staff strictly enforcing passenger safety regulations.
