3-6-2024 (SINGAPORE) A man sustained a head injury after engaging in a brawl with another passenger on an MRT train last Saturday morning (June 1).
The altercation occurred on a North East Line train travelling from Kovan to Serangoon, as reported by Shin Min Daily News. Eyewitness Chen described the scene: “It all happened so suddenly. There was no prior movement or quarrelling sounds in the carriage, but the two men suddenly started fighting.”
A 23-second video captured by Chen shows a man in an orange T-shirt pushing another man dressed in grey and carrying a backpack against the train door. The man in grey retaliates with a punch, and a flurry of blows ensues. As the two men tumble to the floor, a passenger in a black T-shirt intervenes, shouting for them to stop. He restrains the man in grey with a headlock and drags him away.
The man in orange rises with blood trickling down his head, and blood splatters can be seen on the carriage floor. Throughout the commotion, a girl can be heard crying in the background.
Chen reported that the initially crowded carriage quickly emptied as passengers moved away from the fight. Upon arrival at Serangoon station, station staff approached the injured man, offering assistance, which he declined. Another passenger provided him with tissues to wipe off the blood. Chen noted that the injured man alighted at Woodleigh station, while the other man remained on board when she exited at Farrer Park station.
An SBS Transit spokeswoman confirmed the incident. The control centre was notified before the train’s arrival at Serangoon station, but no incident was found upon inspection by a staff member. The injured passenger declined assistance and continued his journey. Train service continued without disruption.
