21-10-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A tragic incident unfolded in the bustling neighbourhood of Pulau Tikus, George Town, as a 48-year-old Pakistani man succumbed to injuries sustained in a brutal stabbing attack. The assailant, believed to be a local resident, remains at large as authorities launch a full-scale investigation into this shocking act of violence.
Acting Northeast District Police Chief, Superintendent Lee Swee Sake, provided details of the harrowing event, which occurred at approximately 5 pm on Monday, 21 October. The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was rushed to a private clinic on Jalan Datuk Keramat by a friend in a desperate attempt to save his life.
“Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the victim’s injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead at around 6 pm,” Supt Lee explained in a statement to Bernama, the national news agency of Malaysia. Following the tragic outcome, the deceased’s body was transferred to Penang Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination.
The police have initiated a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding this deadly assault. “We are actively pursuing all leads to apprehend the suspect and determine the motive behind this senseless act of violence,” Supt Lee stated. He urged members of the public with any information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry.
Given the gravity of the offence, the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which deals with murder. If convicted, the perpetrator could face the death penalty or life imprisonment, depending on the court’s decision.
