6-11-2023 (JAKARTA) The operator of the Indonesian hospital in Gaza has firmly denied allegations made by the Israeli military that the hospital has been utilized by Hamas for launching attacks. These assertions were met with a strong response from the Indonesian hospital’s management.
Sarbini Abdul Murad, the chairman of MER-C, a voluntary group responsible for running the Indonesian hospital, stated, “We constructed this hospital to provide assistance to the people of Gaza, addressing their needs.” He further commented during a press conference held in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital, that “Israel’s accusation is a pretext to potentially target the Indonesian hospital in Gaza.”
The Israeli military spokesperson had previously presented satellite imagery on Sunday, suggesting that rocket launchers were located in close proximity to the Indonesian hospital, as well as other hospitals in Gaza.
In response to these claims, officials at MER-C emphasized that there are no tunnels beneath the hospital. Furthermore, for security purposes, the facility’s fuel tank and power generators are stored in separate nearby buildings.
Indonesia, the largest Muslim-majority country globally, has been a vocal advocate for an immediate ceasefire in the region. The nation has also dispatched humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Health authorities in Gaza, under the control of Hamas, reported that more than 9,770 Palestinians have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict since Hamas initiated a cross-border assault on October 7. This tragic situation has resulted in the deaths of 1,400 individuals and the capture of over 240 hostages.
