22-7-2023 (LOS ANGELES) Since its initial launch in November, OpenAI’s ChatGPT tool has rapidly gained popularity, reaching an impressive number of users comparable to the success of Threads. Following the successful release of the free iOS app for iPhones and iPads in May, OpenAI has now announced that the ChatGPT for Android app is ready for launch.
OpenAI took to Twitter to reveal the upcoming release of the ChatGPT for Android app, without providing a specific launch date. However, interested users can already register on the Google Play Store’s preorder page to ensure they receive the app as soon as it becomes available.
The Android app’s launch has been highly anticipated since the release of the iOS version, where OpenAI promised that an Android version would be available “soon.” With the Android app’s imminent arrival, users will have greater accessibility to ChatGPT’s chatbot capabilities on their preferred mobile devices.
Unlike Google’s Bard chatbot, which relies solely on its web-based interface without dedicated mobile apps, ChatGPT for Android brings the convenience of a standalone app for users on the go. Additionally, Microsoft’s Bing app, powered by its Prometheus Model and GPT-4, has been available on both Android and iOS platforms since February, offering another option for those seeking AI-driven conversational experiences.
Despite the impending release of ChatGPT for Android, recent data from Sensor Tower and Similarweb indicated a decline in web traffic and app installations for the month of June. Furthermore, some users have expressed concerns about GPT-4’s perceived decline in performance, describing it as “slower and dumber.” In response, OpenAI reassured users that they are actively working on updating the APIs to address any issues and improve the overall experience.
