14-3-2024 (LOS ANGELES) American actress Olivia Munn made a candid revelation on March 13, disclosing that she underwent a double mastectomy following a diagnosis of breast cancer.
The renowned actress, known for her roles in “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “The Newsroom,” took to Instagram to share the news with her followers. This disclosure comes just days after she graced the Oscars ceremony alongside her partner, comedian John Mulaney.
At 43 years old, Munn revealed that her cancer diagnosis came almost a year ago when her doctor identified an elevated risk and recommended an additional scan, a year ahead of her scheduled mammogram.
“I wouldn’t have found my cancer for another year—at my next scheduled mammogram,” she informed her followers.
Following initial tests, a biopsy confirmed Luminal B cancer in both breasts—an aggressive and fast-moving form of the disease. Consequently, Munn underwent a double mastectomy just 30 days later.
“I went from feeling completely fine one day, to waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery the next,” she shared in her post, accompanied by photos apparently taken during her treatment.
Despite the challenging ordeal, Munn considers herself fortunate to have had timely detection, affording her various treatment options. She expressed her desire for all women to have similar opportunities if faced with a similar situation in the future.
Munn made a notable appearance on the red carpet at the Academy Awards ceremony on March 10 in Hollywood, where Mulaney presented an Oscar. She later attended the star-studded Vanity Fair after-party.
Alongside her accomplishments on the small screen, including appearances on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and a role in Aaron Sorkin’s HBO drama “The Newsroom,” Munn boasts an impressive filmography, with credits in movies such as “Magic Mike,” “The Predator,” and “Office Christmas Party.”
