11-12-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A construction site in Penang became the scene of a daring rescue operation on the night of December 9 when an obese man, weighing approximately 200kg, encountered severe breathing difficulties. The incident required the assistance of eight firemen who were summoned to the site to save the distressed individual.
The Penang Fire and Rescue Department received an urgent distress call from a concerned member of the public at around 8:45 pm, alerting them to the dire situation. In response, a team of firemen from the Perak Road fire station was swiftly dispatched to the location.
Upon arrival at Persiaran Bayan Mutiara, the firemen discovered the victim, a man in his 40s, in a semi-conscious state and struggling to breathe. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the firemen immediately sought the aid of a St John medical team who were present at the scene.
Given the victim’s substantial weight, the firemen faced a unique challenge in safely transporting him to receive further medical attention. To overcome this obstacle, they ingeniously employed a specially designed lifting blanket. With the assistance of this equipment, they carefully hoisted the man onto a 4×4 truck owned by his employer.
Following the successful rescue operation, the victim was swiftly transported to Penang Hospital for additional treatment. The medical professionals at the facility would continue to monitor and attend to his needs in the hopes of alleviating his distressing condition.
