4-12-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Relentless heavy rains have triggered severe flooding in Malaysia’s northeastern state of Kelantan, resulting in the displacement of 4,631 individuals as of 3 p.m. local time on Monday.
The affected individuals have been provided shelter in 12 flood relief centers, as confirmed by the country’s social welfare department. Over the past few weeks, intermittent flooding has necessitated evacuations in various states, with the east coast bearing the brunt of the inclement weather.
The meteorological department has issued warnings of continued heavy rainfall attributed to the northeast monsoon, which typically persists from October to March. Additionally, strong winds and rough seas are expected in the northern states and along the country’s east coast.
