25-7-2023 (HANOI) Air carriers in Vietnam will now have to refund passengers for flights delayed for five hours or more under a new regulation, according to a report by Vietnam News, cited by Xinhua on Monday.
If a flight is delayed for five hours or more, passengers can request a ticket refund, and the carrier must refund the entire ticket fare or the unused portion of the fare, according to the passenger’s choice. For flights delayed for two hours or more, within the scope of service provision, the carrier will offer suitable itinerary changes for passengers or switch them to another flight to reach their final destination, exempting any conditions on itinerary changes, flight switches, or related surcharges for passengers.
The Ministry of Transport stipulates that the refund amount for completely unused tickets will equal the ticket fare the passenger paid. The new regulations will take effect on September 1, 2023.
