2-4-2024 (MANILA) Maj. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, former comptroller of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has assumed the role of the 30th PNP chief, succeeding Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.
The official turnover ceremony took place at Camp Crame, coinciding with the announcement made by MalacaƱang yesterday. Marbil, aged 55 and a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy class of 1991, now leads the 230,000-strong PNP.
During the ceremony, President Marcos urged Marbil to lead the police force as “agents of transformation,” emphasizing values of patriotism, environmental stewardship, and community service.
Acknowledging Marbil’s appointment, President Marcos expressed his full confidence and support, urging close collaboration in addressing emerging threats such as cybercrime and terrorism.
Marbil, who previously served as chief of Police Regional Office 8 and director of the Highway Patrol Group, holds a master’s degree in public administration from Ateneo de Manila University. He pledged to ensure the safety and well-being of every community in the nation.
President Marcos commended outgoing Chief Acorda for his achievements, citing improved law enforcement operations, enhanced technology capabilities, and stronger community relations under his leadership. He also highlighted the PNP’s high trust rating in a recent survey, indicating growing public confidence in the police force.
Despite Acorda’s retirement, Marcos extended his term until March 31 to oversee the transition. Police Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta has been designated as officer-in-charge of the PNP chief’s office until a replacement is appointed.
In his closing remarks, Marcos thanked the police force and their families for their sacrifices, urging them to remain vigilant in the face of challenges and opportunities as they strive to build a better Philippines.
