3-7-2023 (TAIPEI) A famous chain of hot pot restaurants in Taiwan has announced the limited-time availability of “frog hot pot” in July. While the news has sparked discussion, many netizens seem uninterested and even find it “terrifying.” The well-known chain recently shared a photo of a frog being cooked in a hot pot on its Facebook page and challenged its followers to try it.
The photo shows the frog’s legs being picked up with chopsticks, with the whole frog left unpeeled or diced and thrown into the hot pot headfirst. The shocking image has sparked heated discussion among netizens, with comments such as “Why not peel the skin?” and “They should have peeled it first before cooking it.” Some even suggested that the photo should be censored to make it less terrifying.
However, some food enthusiasts love the taste of frog hot pot. “It’s my favorite dish. I always eat it when I go there,” said one user. Another said, “The soup base and the meat are both sweet,” while a third added, “Frogs are good for your skin because they contain collagen.”
Despite the mixed reactions, the chain’s decision to offer frog hot pot has generated publicity for the restaurant. It remains to be seen whether the dish will become a hit or a flop once it hits the menu.
