18-6-2023 (CALIFORNIA) After much anticipation, Netflix is finally giving fans a glimpse of its highly awaited adaptation of the popular manga and anime series, One Piece. At the streaming platform’s Tudum event today, the first trailer for the live-action pirate epic was unveiled, providing around 90 seconds of thrilling footage. The trailer showcases the main cast, led by Iñaki Godoy, along with colossal sea creatures and the iconic stretchy arm characteristic of the series.
In addition to the trailer reveal, Netflix announced the premiere date for the eight-episode series. One Piece will start streaming exclusively on Netflix from August 31st, marking a significant milestone for fans who have been eagerly awaiting its arrival.
The live-action adaptation of One Piece, based on Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga, was initially announced in 2020. Since then, glimpses and teasers have been teased, but this trailer provides the first proper glimpse into the show’s world. There were concerns that the series might face delays after Oda, the creator, expressed his desire for the adaptation to meet his satisfaction before launch. However, the series remains on track, defying speculations of a postponed 2023 release.
Speaking about the adaptation, Oda emphasized its importance in reaching a global audience. “Considering my expected lifespan, I believe this is the last chance to bring One Piece to the entire world,” he stated. “If we’re going to do it, I want to be able to supervise things while I’m still active. That’s why I agreed to the live-action adaptation of One Piece back in 2016.”
