25-5-2023 (Kuala Lumpur) Netflix subscribers in Malaysia will now be required to pay a $2.82 (RM13) fee per user for password-sharing with individuals residing in different households. This crackdown on password-sharing was initially enforced in select Latin American countries but has now been expanded to over 100 countries, including Malaysia and the United States. However, accounts can still be shared with users living in the same household without incurring any additional charges.
It is important to note that the number of available slots for additional users is limited, depending on the account category. The Standard plan allows for only one additional user slot, while the Premium plan allows for up to two additional slots. Extra users will have access to Netflix content at the same streaming quality as the account owner but will be limited to using a single device at a time.
Each additional member will have their own profiles and the ability to set maturity ratings. However, they will not have the option to create a Kid’s profile. Furthermore, additional slots can only be activated within the same country as the account owner, preventing viewers from using invites from other countries.
The original account owner will be responsible for the payment of the additional slot. However, the option to add a slot is only available to users who make direct payments to Netflix, rather than using a third-party provider like Astro.
According to Netflix, a “Netflix Household” refers to a collection of devices connected to the internet at the primary location where Netflix is watched. All other devices that use the same Netflix account on the same internet connection as the main TV will automatically be considered part of the Netflix Household, as explained in the streaming service’s help center.
Users can refer to a step-by-step guide on Netflix’s website for instructions on setting up a Netflix Household.
