28-8-2023 (YANGON) Myanmar police have successfully confiscated a significant amount of illegal drugs in separate operations conducted in the country’s northern states. Additionally, in a separate operation in Shan State, anti-narcotics police acted on a tip-off and confiscated 182,000 stimulant tablets worth more than 72 million kyats (around $34,200).
The heroin seizure took place on Friday, according to the CCDAC. The police carried out the operation in Mohnyin Township, successfully intercepting the illicit drugs. The value of the seized heroin is estimated to be over 160 million kyats, making it a significant blow to the drug trade in the region.
In another operation on Saturday, the anti-narcotics police acted swiftly in response to intelligence received about the illegal drug trade in eastern Myanmar’s Shan State. The officers were able to seize 182,000 stimulant tablets, with an estimated value of more than 72 million kyats. The tablets were discovered during a search of a motorcycle driven by a suspect in Mong Hsat township.
The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control confirmed that further investigations are currently underway to uncover additional details and apprehend any individuals involved in these cases. The authorities are determined to dismantle the drug networks and curb the flow of illegal substances in the country.
