4-1-2025 (HANOI) A 39-year-old motorcyclist has succumbed to severe brain injuries following a violent road rage incident in Binh Duong Province, family members confirmed on Thursday.
The victim, identified by initials NTB, passed away on Wednesday evening at Cho Ray Hospital after a four-day battle for survival. His death came after suffering brutal injuries in an assault that occurred following a minor traffic collision in Ben Cat City.
Police have detained Le Van Hien, 36, from An Giang Province, on charges of causing intentional grievous bodily harm. Authorities are now conducting a post-mortem examination as part of their ongoing investigation into the incident, which may lead to more serious charges.
The fatal confrontation unfolded on 30 December at the intersection of My Phuoc – Tan Van and NE8 in Thoi Hoa ward, when Hien’s motorcycle collided with the victim’s vehicle. What began as a minor traffic incident escalated into violence when Hien allegedly attacked NTB, repeatedly striking him with fists, feet, and a motorcycle helmet.
Witnesses report that Hien continued his assault until the victim lay motionless on the ground, at which point the assailant fled the scene on his motorcycle. Bystanders rushed NTB to Binh Duong General Hospital, from where he was later transferred to Cho Ray Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Medical reports from Cho Ray Hospital indicated that NTB suffered bilateral frontal brain contusions and dangerous low blood pressure levels upon admission. Despite intensive medical intervention, his condition remained critical throughout his hospital stay.
The victim’s family is currently conducting funeral arrangements in Binh Duong Province, while local authorities continue their investigation into this tragic incident that has highlighted the devastating consequences of road rage violence.
