15-5-2024 (SINGAPORE) Footage capturing a motorcycle slipping and crashing while descending into the basement car park at Funan has surfaced, shedding light on a series of accidents that occurred on May 14. The incident, occurring amid wet weather conditions, also witnessed multiple cars colliding into a wall at the same location.
The video, shared on social media, offers a glimpse from the motorcyclist’s perspective as they navigate down into the basement. In the footage, the motorcycle is seen slipping and tumbling at a right turn, seemingly due to wet ground conditions. The motorcyclist appears to have applied brakes upon approaching a stationary white vehicle ahead.
According to accounts from motorists, at least ten vehicles reportedly crashed into the wall between 6 pm and 7 pm, coinciding with heavy rainfall across the island since approximately 5 pm. One driver involved in the incident expressed frustration over the delayed response from mall management, highlighting that some affected car owners resorted to calling the police for assistance.
Responding to media queries, a spokesperson from Funan stated that the affected areas and the car park entrance on North Bridge Road were promptly cordoned off as a safety measure upon receiving alerts about the accidents. The mall administration assured ongoing investigations into the incident’s cause and pledged necessary assistance to affected drivers.
