10-6-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A mother shared her experience with a suspicious female driver on her Facebook account “Veone November” during her trip to Bangkok, Thailand to attend a Blackpink concert. She urges all individuals, especially women traveling alone, to be cautious and careful.
The mother, who was accompanied by her eldest daughter, chose a female-only ride-hailing service with a female driver for safety reasons. However, the driver appeared busy and constantly responded to messages on her phone, even asking if they wanted mineral water.
“I generally don’t drink beverages given by others, and although my daughter wanted to drink, I stopped her. The driver continued messaging and even answered a phone call and said ‘mai ao,’ which means ‘do not’ in Thai,” said the mother.
She was puzzled and questioned whether the driver was informing the person on the other end of the line about her refusal to drink water. Suspicious of the situation, she used Google Translate to translate the conversation between the driver and the other person.
“Google Translate showed phrases like ‘who is responsible for the child’,” she said. Worried that someone might intend to kidnap her child, she immediately contacted her husband and had a video call with him. “My husband asked me to give him the driver’s license plate number and asked her to stop. Although she did not want to, I did not listen to her and opened the door!” she added.
The mother emphasized the importance of being cautious while traveling and sharing ride-hailing information with family members. She also explained that she shared her experience to protect her child, not to accuse all drivers of being untrustworthy. Despite the incident, she still loves Thailand and plans to visit again in the future.
Her post has since been widely shared and discussed among netizens. While some praised her for being vigilant, others believed that the mother may have overreacted, and the driver’s conversation was merely casual. Regardless, her experience serves as a reminder to always be alert and aware of one’s surroundings when traveling.
