6-11-2023 (SINGAPORE) A harrowing incident unfolded on Sunday in Eunos, as a mother and her one-year-old baby were discovered lifeless at the base of an HDB block. Eyewitnesses reported that the pair had fallen from the block, and the police are currently ruling out foul play.
Tragedy Strikes Eunos Block
According to reports from Lianhe Zaobao, the distressing event took place around 12:40 PM on Sunday afternoon. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that a 33-year-old woman and her one-year-old baby were found motionless at the foot of Block 35 Eunos Crescent. Sadly, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Blue Police Tents Emerge at Eunos Block
The presence of two ominous blue police tents caught the attention of onlookers at the block’s base. Additionally, authorities cordoned off the fourth floor and commenced investigations at a unit on that level.
It is believed that the deceased resided in the flat under scrutiny.
Fall from Stairwell Suspected
Based on the positioning of the bodies, it is speculated that the fatal fall occurred from the stairwell of the block. A neighbor disclosed to Zaobao that he heard a loud noise at approximately 12:45 PM. Alarmed, he went downstairs to investigate, only to be confronted with the sight of two fallen individuals.
The neighbor, who chose to remain anonymous, described the victims as Chinese. The woman was lying face down, while the baby, still wearing a diaper, was also present.
Relative Arrives at Eunos Block
Around 2:40 PM, a man, believed to be a relative of the deceased, arrived at the scene and engaged in conversation with police officers. At 4:40 PM, the bodies were removed, and the man returned to the flat, visibly solemn, and began rearranging belongings. He declined to speak with reporters.
Mother and Daughter Suspected Victims
Another neighbor, who also preferred anonymity, revealed that the deceased were a mother and her daughter. They had moved into the residential area approximately a year ago, and the neighbor would often exchange greetings with them. Describing them as reserved, he mentioned that the woman had two children, with the deceased baby being the younger sibling.
The male relative is believed to be unrelated to the mother as per the resident’s statement.
No Foul Play Suspected
Following preliminary investigations, the police have ruled out foul play in connection with the incident. They have specifically stated that homicide is not a possibility. However, investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
