21-6-2024 (JAKARTA) An Indonesian woman, Revi Cahya Widi Sulihatin, who was previously reported missing in Osaka, Japan, has been found after it emerged that she had been arrested by immigration authorities in the country.
The revelation came from Judha Nugraha, the Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Foreign Ministry, who confirmed the news to Tempo on Saturday, June 15. “Correct. She was arrested by the Japanese authorities,” Nugraha stated.
According to Nugraha, Revi is in good health, and the Indonesian government has informed her family about her current condition and whereabouts. However, the ministry is still investigating the circumstances surrounding Revi’s arrest.
The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Osaka has received information from local authorities regarding Revi’s case, but officials were unable to meet with her until June 19. Nugraha refrained from providing further details about the chronology of Revi’s arrest, opting to wait for the consulate’s update after their meeting with her.
Revi’s disappearance first came to light through a Facebook post by Lidya Permata Sari Lahagu, who claimed to be Revi’s older sister, in the Backpacker International group. Lidya wrote that Revi had flown to Japan from Kuala Lumpur International Airport on June 10 and landed at Osaka Kansai International Airport later that day.
According to Lidya’s post, Revi’s last communication was that she had passed through immigration, after which she became unreachable. Revi was reportedly in Japan on a short-term visa with a 15-day visit period, which meant she was expected to leave the country by June 25.
Interestingly, the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka did not receive any report from Japanese authorities until several days after Revi’s arrest. When asked about Lidya’s relationship with Revi, Nugraha stated that she was not a relative but declined to provide further details.
