17-5-2024 (MANILA) The Philippine military reported yesterday that two suspected rebels were killed during a confrontation in the southern region of the country. The clash occurred as troops were conducting operations in a village near Lebak town, Sultan Kudarat province.
According to the military’s report, the troops encountered a group of approximately 10 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels. During the skirmish, soldiers recovered an M16 rifle, a .45 calibre pistol, a grenade, and several rounds of ammunition from the scene.
In a separate incident reported by the military, a soldier lost his life and another was wounded during a firefight in the central Philippines on Tuesday. This engagement took place in San Jorge town, Samar province.
The report detailed that an unspecified number of NPA rebels were involved in the exchange of gunfire with the troops. However, the military did not provide further specifics regarding the encounter.
