16-2-2024 (LOS ANGELES) Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh is set to take on a leading role in the upcoming action-thriller film, “The Mother,” directed by Melanie Laurent.
In the film, Yeoh will portray Ann, an immigrant mother and businesswoman striving to build a new life for her family in America. When her two teenage sons find themselves entangled with a corrupt Boston cop and a criminal organization, Ann is compelled to confront her past, leaving no stone unturned to ensure her children’s safety.
Scheduled to commence filming this summer, “The Mother” will be produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee for Thunder Road, along with Arthur Sarkissian and John Schramm.
The movie will be presented to potential buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin this week.
Michelle Yeoh made history last year as the first Asian performer to win the Oscar for Best Actress for her role as Evelyn Quan Wang in “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” In response to her achievement, Yeoh expressed optimism about creating opportunities not just for herself but for others in the industry.
Reflecting on her win, the 61-year-old star stated, “The most important thing it has done is it has generated such pride with our people. The day I won, I honestly heard the roar of joy that came from that corner of the world. It’s been slowly moving in that way, and this has pushed the door open, and it’s not shutting behind me… When there are so few roles in the past, it’s so competitive. If you get the job, I don’t get the job. But now we have to change the mindset. If I’m successful, you can be successful.”
