16-9-2023 (MEXICO CITY) Mexican authorities have made a significant arrest at the beginning of this year, apprehending Ovidio Guzmán, the son of the infamous drug lord “El Chapo” Guzmán. The United States Attorney General has confirmed that Ovidio Guzmán has been extradited to the United States to face drug trafficking charges.
According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Ovidio, known by the alias “El Ratón” (The Mouse), is suspected of co-managing the Sinaloa Cartel, the drug trafficking organization founded by his father, along with his brothers. He is also accused of ordering the murder of a singer who refused to perform at his wedding. Ovidio Guzmán was apprehended earlier this year in the state of Sinaloa in northern Mexico.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney General Garland noted that this operation marks the latest effort by the Department of Justice to combat drug trafficking organizations. He praised the remarkable courage displayed by law enforcement and military personnel from both the United States and Mexico in their relentless pursuit of justice. Many have made sacrifices, even giving their lives, in this ongoing battle against drug cartels. Attorney General Garland also expressed gratitude to the Mexican government for their assistance in the extradition of Ovidio Guzmán.
