19-10-2023 (SAN FRANCISCO) On Wednesday, Meta Platforms announced its plans to introduce broadcast channels, a new feature designed for the public distribution of messages from individuals, to both Facebook and Messenger. Social media companies are continually enhancing their platforms with new features to bolster user engagement in an increasingly competitive online environment.
This development comes in the wake of Telegram, a rival messaging app, seeing its broadcast channels play a substantial role in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. These channels serve as the primary means through which the Palestinian Islamist group communicates with the global community.
Meta Platforms stated in a release, “We are presently in the testing phase, allowing Pages to create broadcast channels, and we anticipate a broader rollout in the coming weeks.”
It’s worth noting that Meta recently expanded the availability of WhatsApp Channels to users in more than 150 countries. This feature is also accessible on Instagram.
