6-7-2024 (SINGAPORE) Singapore’s emblematic Merlion statue, a beloved tourist attraction at One Fullerton, is set to undergo a brief period of maintenance, rendering it temporarily unavailable for photographs. The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) announced on Friday that the statue will be undergoing cleaning and upkeep from 29 July to 2 August.
During this five-day period, the half-lion, half-fish sculpture that has become synonymous with Singapore’s identity will be shrouded in scaffolding. The STB has advised that the statue will not be accessible for photo opportunities during this time, a slight disappointment for visitors hoping to capture a snapshot with the iconic landmark.
To mitigate any confusion, the STB plans to erect signage at the site explaining the temporary closure. Additionally, the board has committed to informing travel agents and tour guides in advance through its Travel Agents and Tourist Guides Licensing System, ensuring that itineraries can be adjusted accordingly.
While the main Merlion statue will be out of bounds, tourists need not fret entirely. The smaller Merlion cub statue situated nearby will remain available for photographs, offering an alternative for those keen on capturing a memento of their visit to this famous Singapore landmark.
The STB has appealed for public understanding, acknowledging that the maintenance works and associated barriers may cause some inconvenience to visitors.
