22-3-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) McDonald’s Malaysia has withdrawn its legal action against Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia after the movement acknowledged the operator in Malaysia is entirely independent and not affiliated with the one in Israel.
In a statement on Friday (March 22), McDonald’s Malaysia managing director Datuk Azmir Jaafar affirmed the company’s unwavering stance, emphasizing its non-supportive stance towards conflicts or wars despite operating in Malaysia for over four decades.
“As a 100% Muslim-owned business, we take pride in our membership within the local community, maintaining our commitment to transparency, ethical business practices, and social responsibility towards Malaysians,” stated Azmir.
Expressing empathy for the innocent victims in Gaza affected by the conflict, Azmir condemned all forms of violence and expressed hopes for a swift end to the war, advocating for continued peace in the region.
McDonald’s Malaysia reaffirmed its support for Palestinians impacted by the violence, announcing contributions to the Palestine Humanitarian Fund and various employee fundraising initiatives aimed at supporting relief efforts in Gaza.
“We believe that today’s decision will pave the way for all parties to move forward and concentrate on seeking a resolution that upholds justice,” Azmir concluded.
