16-5-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has officially revoked the air service licence (ASL) of My Jet Xpress Airlines Sdn Bhd, effective from May 2. This decision follows the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia’s (CAAM) revocation of My Jet’s air operator certificate (AOC) No. 40.
The ASL revocation is a direct consequence of CAAM’s action and is mandated under subsection 43(3) of the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015. Consequently, My Jet is now barred from operating any cargo or passenger flights on both domestic and international routes.
Mavcom’s executive chairman, Saripuddin Kasim, highlighted the demanding nature of the aviation industry, emphasizing that only companies with a strong commercial foundation can sustain long-term operations. “The commission’s evaluation process is thorough and rigorous, assessing and reviewing all licence or permit applications based on specific criteria. We strive to ensure that only companies that meet these stringent requirements are permitted to operate,” he stated in an announcement today.
Mavcom noted that it had approved the renewal of My Jet’s 48-month ASL on September 9, 2021, valid from October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2025, subject to certain conditions. However, on July 5, 2023, Mavcom issued a show-cause letter to My Jet concerning non-compliance with its ASL, subsequently suspending the licence for six months starting from November 1, 2023.
My Jet, originally established as Neptune Air in 1970, rebranded as My Jet Xpress Airlines in 2018 following a restructuring. Based at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the airline primarily offered cargo services and cargo aircraft leasing.
