19-6-2023 (YANGON) In a significant development, authorities in Myanmar have intercepted a staggering 22 kilograms of heroin in the central region of Mandalay. The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) released a statement late Sunday revealing the details of the operation.
Acting on a reliable tipoff, anti-narcotics police swiftly carried out a raid on a residence in Pyigyitagun Township of Mandalay on June 15. The result was the confiscation of the substantial quantity of heroin, cleverly concealed within soap containers, as disclosed in the official statement.
The seized narcotics carry an estimated value of approximately 550 million kyats, which is equivalent to around 261,904 U.S. dollars. Furthermore, the CCDAC reported the arrest of two individuals directly linked to the case, reinforcing the significant progress made in combating drug-related crimes.
Both suspects have been formally charged under Myanmar’s stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
