9-1-2025 (SINGAPORE) A massive fire erupted at a shophouse in Sembawang on Wednesday evening, prompting a large-scale emergency response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
The blaze, which broke out at approximately 8:25 pm at 10A Jalan Tampang, primarily affected the Long Kun Lion Dance Martial Arts Centre situated on the building’s upper floor. The incident drew significant attention from local residents and resulted in the swift evacuation of nearby establishments.
In a coordinated response, the SCDF deployed approximately 40 firefighters and eight emergency vehicles from multiple stations, including Yishun, Woodlands, and Tampines Fire Stations, along with their Special Rescue Team. At least seven fire engines were observed at the scene, where firefighters employed two water jets inside the structure and positioned two water cannons externally to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent properties.
“We had to evacuate immediately when we noticed the fire,” said a 48-year-old owner of a neighbouring massage parlour. “We were still serving customers at the time, but safety had to come first.”
A shop employee, Ms Li, 41, whose workplace is several units away from the affected building, described the urgent evacuation: “We had customers in the shop when it happened. Everyone had to leave quickly, and we’re still uncertain about whether we can resume business tomorrow.”
The SCDF successfully contained the blaze within an hour, and approximately 100 people from surrounding establishments were safely evacuated. No injuries were reported in the incident, which prompted a temporary road closure in the area.
