9-3-2024 (BANGKOK) A significant drug seizure has taken place along the Thai-Myanmar border in the forested area of Pai district, Mae Hong Son. Authorities discovered approximately 1.2 million speed pills and 35 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine hidden in the region following a previous larger drug bust nearby.
Acting on intelligence reports, local officials, border patrol units, and local police were deployed to the border areas in tambon Wiang Nua of Pai on Friday night. Their mission was to intercept a drug gang that was reportedly planning to smuggle drugs through a natural crossing in the village of Pai Song-ngae, with the intention of transporting them to Wiang Haeng district in Chiang Mai.
During the joint patrol, law enforcement personnel discovered six fertilizer sacks containing 1.2 million speed pills, along with two additional sacks holding 35 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. The seized drugs were promptly handed over to the Pai police station for further investigation.
This operation followed a significant drug seizure the day before, where troops from the Singhanat military unit of the Naresuan Task Force apprehended 7 million speed pills and 100 kilograms of crystal meth in a forested area of tambon Wiang Nua, Pai. The drugs were concealed within 37 sacks.
In response to the escalating drug-related incidents, Mae Hong Son Governor Chettha Mokikharat issued instructions on Saturday to local officials to intensify patrols across all districts of the northern province. The aim is to crackdown on illicit drugs and other illegal activities, reinforcing the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
