27-5-2023 (Hollywood) – Marvel’s Thunderbolts, featuring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan and David Harbour, has had its production paused due to the ongoing walk-out by members of the Writers Guild of America union. The film was scheduled to begin filming in June, but studio bosses have delayed production for the time being.
Thunderbolts brings together multiple characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), including Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Ghost and Black Widow’s Yelena Belova. The cast also includes Olga Kurylenko, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Steven Yeun. While little is known about the plot of the movie so far, the comics revolve around a group of villains who are sent on missions commissioned by the government.
Thunderbolts is set for release in July 2024, but it is unclear whether the delay will affect its release date. The news follows Marvel Studios delaying the upcoming Blade reboot and Wonder Man TV show.
Despite this setback, production on Captain America: New World Order appears to be going ahead as planned, while work on a third Deadpool movie recently started in the UK.
The ongoing strike by members of the Writers Guild of America union has been causing chaos across the US film and TV industry since it began on May 2. Union members are walking out in a bid to negotiate better residuals from streaming services, among other issues. The strike has led to delays and cancellations of numerous film and TV projects, with studios scrambling to find ways to work around the situation.
