24-7-2023 (JAKARTA) Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah attended the opening ceremony of the 13th WorldSkills ASEAN competition in Singapore, aiming to motivate the Indonesian delegates participating in the prestigious event.
Expressing her hopes for the young talents representing Indonesia, Minister Fauziyah said, “Hopefully, my presence here will encourage our nation’s best young talents contesting at this biennial event.” The competition features 22 vocational fields and attracts delegations from all 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This year, Indonesia is sending two delegates to compete in 18 contested fields.
The fields in which Indonesia is participating include mechatronics, electronics, mobile robotics, refrigeration and air conditioning, industrial automation, automobile technology, fashion technology, restaurant service, beauty, hairdressing, mechanical engineering CAD, IT software solutions for business, web technologies, IT network system administration, graphic design technology, CNC maintenance, Internet of Things, and rapid transit system.
Minister Fauziyah expressed Indonesia’s aspiration to claim the title of overall champions in the international-level skills competition taking place from July 23 to July 27. “We are optimistic that Indonesia will clinch the title of overall champions, like we did at the 9th WorldSkills ASEAN in Jakarta in 2012,” she confidently stated.
Previously known as the ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC), WorldSkills ASEAN is a biennial event aimed at fostering training cooperation, promoting vocational education and training, and enhancing the quality of the young workforce in the region. This year, Singapore is hosting the 13th WorldSkills ASEAN after it was delayed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
As the competition unfolds, the Indonesian delegates are determined to showcase their skills and bring pride to their nation, while Minister Fauziyah’s support serves as a source of motivation and encouragement for the talented youth representing Indonesia on this regional stage.
