10-11-2024 (MANILA) A parking attendant was fatally shot on Saturday morning following an altercation over parking territory along UN Avenue in Manila, with police launching a manhunt for the suspect who fled the scene.
CCTV footage captured the deadly confrontation, showing the suspect approaching the victim who was initially seated beside a parked vehicle. The two men appeared to engage in a heated argument before the victim stood up and reached for a chair. The suspect then suddenly drew a firearm and shot the victim, who died instantly at the scene.
Arceña Navarro, the victim’s mother, revealed she had confronted the suspect just the previous day about allegedly encroaching on her son’s parking territory. “I warned him about taking over my son’s area while it was still dark. How would my son earn a living?” Navarro said, speaking through tears. “My son was a peaceful person. How could someone take a life over a parking dispute?”
According to Police Captain Dennis Turla, chief of the Manila Police District (MPD) Homicide Division, the shooting was the culmination of long-standing tensions between the two parking attendants. “They had nearly come to blows several times before this tragic incident,” Turla explained.
The MPD Homicide Division is preparing murder charges against the suspect, who remains at large. Authorities have intensified their search operations across the capital region to apprehend the gunman.
