14-4-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysian police have issued a warning regarding a suspect involved in a murder attempt at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA 1) on April 14, which left a bodyguard severely injured. The suspect is currently on the loose and considered armed and dangerous.
According to Selangor police chief Commissioner Hussein Omar Khan, the shooting occurred around 1:30 am inside the KLIA 1 arrival hall. “During the incident, a man fired two shots, one of which struck the victim, a personal bodyguard,” he stated. “The suspect then fled the scene. Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect intended to target his wife, who was awaiting the arrival of an umrah group.”
The victim sustained severe injuries as a result of the shooting. Commissioner Hussein emphasized that the incident was not related to terrorist activities but stemmed from a personal issue. He assured the public that the situation at KLIA was secure and under control.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Commissioner Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain identified the suspect as Hafizul Harawi, aged 38, who is also the husband and business partner of the intended victim. The suspect and his wife were reportedly undergoing divorce proceedings.

“The police have classified the suspect as armed and dangerous. Anyone who spots him is urged to share information with the police but not to approach him alone,” Commissioner Shuhaily advised. He cautioned the public to maintain a safe distance and immediately contact the authorities if they encounter the suspect.
Records indicate that the suspect has a history of reported incidents since 2016, including two reports for criminal intimidation filed by his wife, the latest being in December 2023. Commissioner Shuhaily revealed that following the December incident, the victim hired bodyguards for protection.
Additionally, the police have previously investigated the suspect for theft and impersonating a public officer.
The suspect’s wife, known as Farah Cie on Facebook, confirmed in a social media post that her bodyguard had been shot and stated that she had filed a police report.
The case is currently under investigation as an attempted murder, with authorities suspecting that the perpetrator has fled northward.
