10-7-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A man is believed to have jumped from the Second Link Bridge into the Johor Strait. The event, which occurred at approximately 7am, has sparked an intensive search operation by local authorities.
Eyewitnesses report observing a tan-skinned individual, presumed to be in his mid-forties, abruptly halting his motorcycle on the bridge. In a shocking turn of events, the man was seen climbing over the safety railings before plunging into the waters below.
Ishak Noh, the District Fire and Rescue Department Operation Commander, confirmed that an emergency call was received at 7:17am. The alert pertained to an incident at the 10-kilometre mark of the Second Link bridge, on the carriageway heading towards Singapore.
“We’ve gathered statements from witnesses who claim to have seen the man leap from the bridge. His motorcycle was discovered abandoned at the scene,” Noh stated.
While the identity of the individual remains unconfirmed, local media outlets have tentatively identified him as a 45-year-old man named Jivanandan, hailing from the state of Pahang. However, officials stress that this information is yet to be officially verified.
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department has mobilised its resources and is currently conducting an extensive search operation. A spokesperson for the department emphasised that efforts are ongoing to locate the missing motorcyclist.
