17-2-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A 57-year-old man was killed in a tragic shoot-out with the police on Friday (Feb 16) in Napoh, Changloon. The incident unfolded at around 5:30 pm during an operation called Op Laras.
According to Datuk Fisol Salleh, the Kedah police chief, the suspect opened fire at the police, firing two shots, before he was fatally shot by the police. The encounter occurred when the police noticed a suspicious-looking man driving a car in the vicinity of Jalan Bukit Kechik.
“During the operation, the police spotted a man exhibiting suspicious behavior while driving a car in the area near Jalan Bukit Kechik,” said Fisol during a press briefing.
Fisol stated that the police had instructed the suspect to stop, but he refused to comply. In response, the suspect fired two shots at the police officers. In self-defense, the police retaliated with four shots, which struck the suspect’s left chest, resulting in his immediate death.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s car revealed the presence of two pistols and 240 rounds of ammunition. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had a criminal record with four offenses related to drugs and firearms.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960. Authorities will conduct further inquiries to determine any potential connections between the suspect and criminal syndicates.
The body of the deceased suspect has been sent to Hospital Jitra for a post-mortem examination, as part of the ongoing investigation.
