11-12-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia is set to announce a cabinet reshuffle, according to sources cited by Malaysian daily The Star. The report states that the reshuffle will involve various ministries, although the Prime Minister’s office has not yet responded to a request for comment from Reuters.
The announcement is expected to be made prior to a swearing-in ceremony at the national palace scheduled for 3pm (2pm in Thailand) on Tuesday, as disclosed by an unnamed official to The Star.
This reshuffle comes just over a year after Anwar assumed office in November 2022, as he seeks to fortify his administration amidst concerns about the sluggish economy.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously stated in October that a reshuffle was necessary to fill a vacant cabinet position following the passing of a minister in July.
