27-5-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan has embarked on a two-day introductory visit to Singapore, marking his first official trip to the neighboring country since assuming the pivotal role of foreign minister in December last year. This visit aims to sustain the momentum of high-level bilateral exchanges between the two nations.
According to a statement issued by Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (26th), Mohamad Hasan’s official visit, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, will serve as a platform to reinforce the strong ties between Malaysia and Singapore.
During his stay, the Malaysian Foreign Minister is set to engage in meetings with key Singaporean officials, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, and Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Additionally, Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan will host a luncheon in Mohamad Hasan’s honor, with Senior Minister of State for Manpower and Defence Zaqy Mohamad also in attendance.
This introductory visit comes on the heels of Mohamad Hasan’s appointment as Foreign Minister following a cabinet reshuffle announced by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in December last year. Prior to this role, Mohamad Hasan served as the country’s Defense Minister.
In May of the previous year, Mohamad Hasan had visited Singapore in his capacity as Defense Minister, meeting with his Singaporean counterpart, Dr. Ng Eng Hen. During that visit, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining and strengthening defense cooperation between the two nations.
