26-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A Malaysian YouTuber ventured onto the streets of Singapore to ask residents how his home country could close the development gap with the Lion City. Inquiring about Singapore’s reputation as a first-world nation compared to Malaysia’s perception as a developing country, the YouTuber aimed to discover the secrets to Singapore’s success.
The on-site survey video was uploaded by Malaysian YouTube creator Mr. Money TV, and it features Singapore residents sharing their views on Malaysia’s economy and offering suggestions on how Malaysia can catch up with Singapore.
One respondent mentioned that many people perceive Singapore as a more developed country with a better economy, while Malaysia is often viewed as politically unstable. He attributed Malaysia’s perceived instability to constant political changes and the pursuit of power, suggesting that Malaysians may be dissatisfied with politicians who seem indifferent to their concerns.
Another respondent noted the lower cost of living in Malaysia compared to Singapore, particularly from the perspective of Singaporeans traveling to Malaysia. However, he believed that Malaysians working in Singapore might find the cost of living high there.
A female respondent pointed out that Singaporeans enjoy greater spending power in Malaysia due to favorable exchange rates.
One respondent emphasized the importance of good governance and the need for Malaysia to establish a strict and incorruptible system of governance. Another respondent highlighted Malaysia’s resource advantage and suggested that its large population could become a significant asset with effective leadership.
A previous respondent also advocated for Malaysia to tap into the potential and talents of its people. He noted that many talented Malaysians seek opportunities abroad due to a lack of avenues at home, making talent retention a crucial issue that needs addressing.
The consensus among the respondents was that Malaysia should focus on good governance, talent retention, and harnessing the potential of its population to reduce the development gap between the two countries.
