28-11-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Renowned Malaysian business magnate T Ananda Krishnan, whose entrepreneurial ventures shaped the nation’s telecommunications and media landscape, has died at the age of 86, his company announced today.
The death of the billionaire businessman was confirmed in a statement released by Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, his investment holding company. According to the announcement, Krishnan passed away peacefully on 28 November 2024.
Krishnan, who was ranked Malaysia’s third-wealthiest individual by Forbes earlier this year with an estimated net worth of US$5.1 billion, leaves behind a remarkable legacy in Malaysian business. His wealth placed him behind only Robert Kuok and Quek Leng Chan on the country’s rich list.
A Harvard Business School graduate, Krishnan built an impressive business empire that included Maxis Bhd, Malaysia’s second-largest mobile telecommunications provider, and Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd, a dominant force in broadcasting and media services. His business acumen extended to the energy sector through a significant ownership stake in Bumi Armada Bhd, a prominent oil field services company, held via Objektif Bersatu Sdn Bhd.
