18-12-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysian esports sensation, Grills Gaming, clinched the championship title in the Women’s Dota 2 category at the Global Esports Games 2023, held in Riyadh. The team secured a resounding 2-0 victory against Peru in the finals on December 16.
Comprising talented players including Bette “iStarx” Chia, Vanessa “Butterfly” Hii, Tiffany “Hishiko” Tsuyuri, Adeline “velnaoh” Foki, Melissa “Lynnie” Lim, and Stephanie “Auroraa” Lim, the team expressed gratitude to their coach, Chan Litt Binn (WinteR), for his efforts in bringing the team together over the past months. They also credited sports psychologist Mind Gap for fostering team cohesion and addressing issues, while expressing appreciation for their friends’ valuable feedback and advice.
Despite being a part-time, non-sponsored, and zero-budget team, Grills Gaming showcased exceptional skill and determination, emerging victorious. The team celebrated their success on Facebook, expressing gratitude to the many individuals who played a role in their journey.
Another Malaysian team participated in the Dota 2 open category, securing a silver medal after a competitive finals match with Kazakhstan. The team, consisting of Chan “Lonely Chucky” Kok Khin, Kam “Moon” Boon Seng, Nicholas “Zeal” Lim, Ng “YamateH” Wei Phoong, and Pang “Ponyo” Sze Xuan, demonstrated commendable performance.
In the Street Fighter 6 category, Malaysia’s Ban “IamChuan” Chuan Quah contributed to the medal tally by securing a silver medal.
In total, the Malaysian esports contingent, organized by the Malaysian Esports Governance Association (Mega), brought home a gold medal and two silver medals from the Global Esports Games. The competition, spanning from December 12 to 16, attracted over 900 athletes from 100 nations, marking it as a prominent event under the flagship of the Global Esports Federation.
